1)Introduction. Includes thesis.

 

2)Brief historical distription of Diné history up to the long march and the captivity in Bosque Relondo.

 

3)First period of the Diné 1868-1880

            a. Discussion on Agent attempts to help their charges. Navajo struggles with other nearby tribes such as the Ute and Apache. Increase in Population and increase in reservation size.

 

4)Second period 1880-1896. Resistance

            a. continued attempts at creating Navajo agriculture. Searching for good land for agriculture.

            b. resistance to invasions of mine and cattle companies and their allies in US government. Also settlers

 

5)Third period 1896-1910

            a. additional growth of reservation in response to population need. Increase in agriculture. Founding of schools provided by charity orgs.

           

 

6)Conclusion. Includes restatement of thesis.
